ANTI-ANITA THON RAISES $4200; CHITA VISITS

CLEVELAND Over 500 people packed the old Bayou Landing at 1012 Sumner Court May 22 to provide financial and moral support for the Dade County Coalition for Humanistic Rights. Among the festivities were a bake sale, a show hosted by Tiffany Jones and Tiffani Middlesexx that featured Spanish dancers from the Fairmount Center for Performing Arts and an auction.

One auction item was David Kopay's jock strap which according to Club Cleveland's manager Salvatore (Sam) Glizzi "was discreetly taken from his locker, laundered, of course." It went for $60.00.

The most stirring guest appearance of the evening was made by Chita Rivera and her three dancers who came to the Bayou after their engagement at the State Theatre. As Ms. Rivera entered, Tiffani Middlesexx was performing "All That Jazz" from the play Chicago to Chita Rivera's original recording. Overwhelmed with glee, Chita began whistling and carrying on, drawing increasing attention

from the crowd. Once the patrons realized who she was, pandemonium broke out.

Ms. Rivera worked her way to the stage and said, "We love being here in Cleveland and

with all you people. This is where we're at and this is where. we want to be. Anita Bryant will

not win." Chita then gave a monetary donation and left with her entourage to get some shut eye before a 5 a.m. flight to London.

Everyone's frustrations against Ms. Bryant were ventilated throughout the evening, once when local Clevelander Michael Evanochko's song about Ms. Bryant was heard, and then later, when Tiffany Jones appeared looking like Anita Bryant she was met with a barrage of debris-plastic cups, napkins and cigarette butts. "Ms. Bryant" retaliated by throwing oranges back at the audience.

All performers donated their time and talents, as did all of those who organized the benefit. A good and productive time was had by all.
